SYNOPSIS

Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), has left Los Angeles due to his illegal action, let Dominic Toretto escape in the first movie. He comes to Miami to start a new life, where he soars the streets making money by street racing with Tej (Ludacris) an ex-street racer and well-known car tuner. Tej purpose him a race with Suki (Devon Aoki), Orange Julius  (Amaury Nolasco) and Slap Jack (Micheal Ealy). Watched by Customs Agent Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes), Brian, after winning the race, is caught by the police. He is arrested by US Customs Agent Markham (James Renan), and he meet again his former boss FBI Agent Bilkins (Thom Barry), who makes a deal with him saying that if he accepts to take part in a mission, his criminal record will be wiped clean.

The mission involves working undercover as street racer for the shady Miami-based import-export dealer  and drug lord Carter Verone (Cole Hauser), with another cop and with help from Monica. Brian accept the deal, with the only condition to choose personally his partner. Brian and Bilkins travel home to Barstow, California, where Brian recruits his old friend Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson). But Roman is really mad with Brian, ‘cause he thinks it was Brian’s fault if he was arrested long time ago, and now he must live no more than 100 meters away from home. Brian tells Roman that he didn’t betray him when he was arrested, so Pearce agrees at the same deal Brian was offered, a criminal record clean.

Markham give them 2 cars, a Mitubishi Lancer Evo VII and a Mitsubishi Spyder to do an "audition" race  for Verone with others street racers. Verone ask the racers to bring him a package he left in his Ferrari stored in a deposit. They win the highly charged race, and strike a deal with Verone, who wants them drive his money to the Keys, for a prize of 100,000$ at the finish line. Roman requests that the prize be $100,000 for both himself and Brian. But Brian and Roman begin to realize the major trouble they are in and ask Tej to arrange a race for "pink slips" with two of the racers from the audition race; Brian and Roman win Korpi's 1969 Yenko Camaro and Darden's 1970 Challenger R/T.

Later on that night Brian and Roman arrive at Verone's nightclub where he "persuade" the police detective Whitworth (Mark Boone Junior) into keeping the local police away from Brian and Roman so they may transport the money. The next morning they embark on the mission in their Mitsubishis with Verone's dirty money in the trunks and two of his henchmen Enrique (Matt Gallin) and Roberto (Roberto Sanchez) riding along. During the transportation of Verone's money the corrupt Detective Whitworth calls in the army of police units he has waiting nearby. During the chase they lead the police to a warehouse complex. The police surround the front of the garage area so Brian and Roman's street racer friends create a "scramble" diversion allowing Brian and Roman to sneak away in the Camaro and Challenger continuing their mission.

But Roman and Brian have their own plan. Reaching the meeting point Roman free himself from Roberto’s presence with a special ejector seat, but Brian’s one didn’t work, and  tells him the meeting point was changed. Verone said to to kill Brian while he tries to escape aboard his yacht with Monica, who he knew she was an undercover U.S. Customs agent. Roman arrive and helps Brian fighting for life with Enrique. Brian and Roman jump off of a nearby ramp with the Camaro, landing on the top of the yacht to save Monica. Verone is arrested and the duffle bags carrying his drug money are recovered.

TRIVIA

The total production budget of the film was approximately US$76 million, with estimated marketing costs of US$40 million.

The "Tricked Out Edition" DVD release of The Fast and the Furious and the regular DVD release of 2 Fast 2 Furious include a short prelude video that bridges the gap between the two films. It contains no dialogue; instead, background music and sound effects play throughout. The prelude depicts how Brian travels across the southern United States street racing and his acquiring of the Skyline GT-R along the way while eluding authorities because of his letting Toretto escape at the end of the first film.

The first car you see Paul Walker drive in the movie, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, is in fact his own racing car in real life. The car was originally equipped with an all wheel drive system. However, it was converted to rear wheel drive to make the car's maneuvers appear more dramatic. The rear wing was custom made entirely of carbon fiber and cost $2000.

The pedals of the Nissan Skyline in the first race’s sequence are not the same of the following sequence when Brian is captured by police. In the first race are normal rubber pedals with an “R” in the middle, in the next scene are cromed with carbon look inserts, just the same pedals of Brian’s next ride, the Mistubishi Evo7. Same happens with the Evo7’s pedals in the last ride with Enrique.

Paul Walker has personally handpicked all of the racing cars in the movie.

The heliport scenes were shot on the roof of the Miami Herald.

The opening street race zooms past the American Airlines Arena, home of the NBA's Miami Heat, located on Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida.

The cars Brian races against at the beginning are the same models racing in the first race in The Fast and the Furious (2001) and they reach the bridge in reverse order of their appearance in the first movie, except for the Nissan Skyline, that replace the Red Edwin’s Honda Integra Type-R. The stunt crew actually reused some of the stunt cars from the original (they were, of course, modified to resemble the cars in the sequel). Orange Julius's Mazda RX-7 was originally one of the cars that doubled as Dominic Toretto's red RX-7 in the first film. Slap Jack's Toyota Supra was modified from the remaining copies of the orange Supra driven by Brian O'Conner in the first film. To make the car stand out from the rest, the production team designed a lexan panel on the center of the hood that made the engine visible while letting hot air out at the same time. To save the production staff thousands of dollars, the engine of the "hero" car (unit used mainly for photography, not for stunts) was photographed and sent to a local printing press in Miami, FL, where the image was blown up to actual size. The engine pictures were placed directly below the lexan panels of the stunt cars.

Ja Rule was in negotiations for the film, but turned it down to pursue other film projects.

The scene near the end of the movie where the blue car is driven onto the boat was filmed at Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne. A new fishing pier was built by the movie crew to provide the ramp and a car was prepared with the engine and all fuel and brake lines removed and the vehicle steam cleaned so no oil or gas would pollute Biscayne Bay. The plan was to film the shot several times but the first one went so well that the additional takes were cancelled.

While this movie was filming on one side of Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne, Bad Boys II (2003) was filming scenes on the other side of the park.

The Yellow Dodge Viper driven by one of the goons was the first of the new shape "production" Dodge Vipers, Universal pictures got hold of the first four of these cars to use for filming on the understanding that none of them would be damaged, this is why we don't see it crash in the actual film. The Dodge Vipers loaned to the production team were originally colored red. They were repainted red before they were returned.

Most of the cars license plates say "Year One" on them, except the license plate of Rome's Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder that reads "H8ter".

Most of the cars were heavily reinforced with roll cages for the bridge jump. However, the roll cage would have been all too obvious in the convertible Honda S2000. So, the stunt crew rigged up a remote control version for the jump with a dummy in the driver's seat.

The part where the Corvette crashes into the Mustang on the freeway was not planned. Yet the stuntman walked away unscathed. Some parts of the ending were not scripted either, so the actors just improvised.

The indie filmmaker Michael Thomas Dunn makes an appearance as a street racer in the warehouse scene (driving a modified PT Cruiser).

Producer Neal H. Moritz's black Ferrari Spyder is the only car to appear in both Fast and Furious movies. In this movie it is parked at Verone's mansion. Moritz also appears in a cameo as one of the swerving cops.

Before production of the film began, Devon Aoki did not have a driver's license or any driving experience.

So much neon lighting was used in the cars that a technical specialist whose expertise was in shooting neon on film was kept on set at all times.

Brian O'Conner's Nissan Skyline sustained a ruptured oil pan and severe damage on all four rims from the bridge jump, but in a matter of hours, the car was in good running condition with the parts replaced.

The Saleen Mustang that crashes in the highway scene is not an actual Saleen Mustang. It is a V6 Mustang modified with a Saleen body kit.

Universal Studios had two different scripts commissioned. The first script featured Vin Diesel's character while the second script did not in case he decided not to return.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII driven by Paul Walker is not available in the USA, the cars used were imported from RalliArt in the UK.

The complex used as Verone's mansion was formerly owned by Sylvester Stallone.

Rap artist Redman was seriously considered for the character of Tej. But due to schedule conflicts, the part was given to Ludacris.

The Liz-Stick Red Saleen that was parked in front of Verone's was bought by a collector and is now parked in Farmington, New Mexico.

Suki's car was a Honda S2000 with a custom pink paint scheme.

Rosa Blasi was considered for the role of Monica Fuentes.

QUOTES

Brian O'Conner: Yeah?
Tej: Yaeh, man. You wanto to race tonight?
Brian O'Conner: Yeah, you know. I could use the money.
Tej: You got four minutes right.
Brian O'Conner: All right. I’ll be there.

Brian O'Conner: What’s up Tej?
Tej: What’s happening dude?
Brian O'Conner: Thank for the invite.
Tej: No problem at all man. Just...just remenber me when you wax all right?
Brian O'Conner: They got deep pockets?
Tej: Real deep.

Brian O'Conner: What do you say we kick it a nickel?
[Orange Julius rattles off something in Spanish]
Orange Julius: Nobody said nothing about raising the stakes!
Brian O'Conner: If that's the case, why don't you ask these nice people here to back off the line so you can go home?

Brian O'Conner: So what’s the idea here? Dunn and I are suppose to be street racers?
Agent Markham: That’s right.
Brian O'Conner: So, Dunn, looks like we're gonna be partners, bro. Can you tell me right quick what would be a better motor for my Skyline, a Gallo 12 or a Gallo 24?
Agent Dunn: Um...  24?
Brian O'Conner: I didn't know pizza places made motors.

Brian O'Conner: You still fight like shit, bro.

Roman Pearce: Don't even think about takin' the convertible. It might loosen your mousse.
Brian O'Conner: No, that's cool. That's too much chrome for me anyways.

Brian O'Conner: Now put your blouse back on.
Roman Pearce: Hater.

Brian O'Conner: So Jimmy! You ever seen anything like this before?
Jimmy: No. Both of them are wired like I’d never seen before.
Roman Pearce: What?
Brian O'Conner: They got us wired with GPS. That’s why Markham knew we were at the impound lot.

Brian O'Conner: Nice shirt, Bilkins.
Agent Bilkins: It's my day off.

Brian O'Conner: Shut up!
Roman Pearce: Don’t tell me to shut up, Brian! You almost blew our cover, old man!
Brian O'Conner: You shouldn’t have show up like you did. You didn’t know Verone was testing us?
Agent Markham: No. I thought you punks were running!
Roman Pearce: Running?
Brian O'Conner: That’s great. That’s real great! And if Rome wanted to shoot you? You woldn’t be here right now.

Brian O'Conner: Let’s gets these cars. So. Check it out. There's no way we'll gonna beat these guys straight up. The Hemi's put out about 425 and that Yenko snap a speedo in 5 seconds flat...so... We have to pull something out of our ass. I think we should save the spray for the way back and we turn through.
Roman Pearce: Done deal.
Brian O'Conner: Let's do this, bro
Roman Pearce: I'm getting that orange one.

Brian O'Conner: How you doing?
Carter Verone: Good. Enjoying your night?
Brian O'Conner: Yeah. I’m having a good time.
Carter Verone: Good. She’s beautiful, isn’t she?
Brian O'Conner: Yeah. She’s gorgeous.
Roman Pearce: You got balls, kid. I appreciate that.

Roman Pearce: Let me get this right. If we don’t do this, than we go to jail. But, if we do it, then Verone’s going to kill us.
Brian O'Conner: It’s a hell of a deal, huh?
Roman Pearce: Yeah. Maybe it is. But I know this guy’s got an ass full of loot that he’s ready to dump in our cars. And I can think of two reasons of Verone doesn’t need that money anymore.
Brian O'Conner: That here we go.
Roman Pearce: You and me. Just like the old days. What do you think?
Brian O'Conner: I think they messed with the wrong two guys, that’s what I think!

Brian O'Conner: Hey, Jimmy! We got any half-empty bottles of nitrous laying around?
Jimmy: Sure, but I already loaded you with spray.
Brian O'Conner: I'm thinking we may need it for something else. 'Cause our cars may get a little crowded, you know?

Brian O'Conner: You ready for this?
Roman Pearce: Come on, man. Guns, murderers and crooked cops? I was made for this, bro.

Roman Pearce: Boat. Car. Boat. You're not gonna do what I think you're gonna do?
Brian O'Conner: Yeah, I think so. You got my back, bro?
Roman Pearce: Yeah.
Brian O'Conner: All right man, put on the seat belt.
Roman Pearce: Show him some Dukes of Hazzard shit!

Roman Pearce: Don't drop the soap, big homey!
Brian O'Conner: I hope you know  when he gets out, he's going to kill your ass.
Roman Pearce: He ain’t getting out.
Carter Verone: I’ll see you soon.
Roman Pearce: You think he’s going to get out?
Brian O'Conner: He’ll be out.

Brian O'Conner: Pockets ain't empty, cuz!
Roman Pearce: And we ain't hungry no more either, brah!
